🎁 It’s this time of the Year Again: The Christmas Gift Convoy!

The Christmas Gift Convoy is a heartfelt initiative that has grown into strong traditions operated by the Round Table Family & Friends, bringing joy and hope to children in need across Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova, Poland, and Ukraine. Every year, thousands of lovingly packed parcels are delivered to make a real difference in the lives of these children. Each gift is more than just a present – it’s a powerful symbol of care and solidarity.

This year, the teams from Germany and Austria had a unique moment to work side by side at one location, distributing parcels together. While the majority of the efforts took place separately in their respective regions, this shared experience beautifully demonstrated that helping others knows no borders.

Thank you to all who made this possible! With over 165,000 parcels delivered this year, the convoy continues to be a shining example of what we can achieve together.

This is just one of many extraordinary examples of how members of the Round Table Family & Friends collaborate to make remarkable acts of help and support possible. Together, we show the world the power of community and compassion.

The road to Maastricht leads to a great cause!

A cycle tour fundraiser to the RTI World Meeting is underway, as an initiave by Round Table & Old Table 165 Winsen (Luhe), Germany. 🇩🇪

The challenge is to cover 500 km in 6 days with a team of 8 cyclists. And, this all for noble cause - to raise funds for their chosen charity otganisation, "Hands at Work" in Africa.

The funding will go to a playground being built in Msengeni (Eswatini) for 75 children & to a new care centre in Maonde, aimed at increasing the capacity of nurturing & assisting vulnerable children.

On average, almost 3,000 people commit suicide daily, & for every person who takes their life, 20 or more may attempt to end their own lives. Close to one million people commit suicide each year & the loss of a loved one who has passed by suicide shatters the lives of family & friends.

Be the light!

Let's break the silence & stigma surrounding mental health. Together, we have the power to prevent suicide and provide support to those in need. It's vital for us all to reach out to our loved ones, especially those who may be going through difficult times. We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Lawrence Bamber.

Lawrence, a respected & influential figure in the international community & within 41 International, shared countless memories at both local & international gatherings over the years. 🌐

He proved that friendship & exploring the world can continue well into retirement, serving as an inspiration to others. With his passing, Lawrence is leaving behind a legacy of compassion, & friendship.

During this very difficult time, we extended our deepest condolences to Lawrence's family, his friends, & the entire Round Table Family.

Tom van Haandel, a Tabler from 171 Kerkrade in The Netherlands, is set to run 100 kilometres on the 14th of September 2024, in support of the foundation "Ziek Gelukkig" (Sick Happy).

For Tom, this run represents so much more than a personal achievement. It symbolizes a heartfelt journey driven by love for his twin brother, Tim, who has been courageously battling melanoma cancer for years. Despite the immense challenges Tim faces, he continues to embrace life & embodies strength & positivity, even in the face of adversity.

The charity Tom has chosen to support is committed to enhancing the lives of those battling serious illnesses, as well as providing vital support for their families. This cause is particularly close to Tom's heart, as he knows firsthand the importance of mental & emotional support during tough times.

🌐 RTI Spotlight:

Every year, all Areas of Round Table Great Britain and Ireland (RTBI) gather for the spirited National Sporting Weekend to compete for the title of best sporting prowess within their Association.

This year, the event was held in Norwich, the birthplace of Round Table, with a "The US Games" theme. 280 Tablers from across the country, as well as some from abroad, participated in American-themed sports & parties. The competition was filled with fun & fellowship-intensity, with 8 teams competing, including Team Louis, Team Marchesi, Team International, & smaller Tables teaming up to challenge larger areas. 🇺🇸

The weekend featured trips, tours, & various sports competitions such as lacrosse, dodgeball, athletics, soccer, basketball, volleyball, hockey, & badminton. Area 14 East Midlands emerged as the overall winners, closely followed by Hosts Area 6, & Team Louis in third place.

Next year, the popular event will be hosted in Wales with the exciting "Dragon Games" theme where you can join Team International & try to claim victory. Early bird tickets are available for purchase online, so please reach out to RTBI for more information.

Welcome to week 10 of "Forging Friendships"! 🌐

Following on last week's act, we hope that you are living & laughing with your mates. For your final "task", take care of those at your side:

Week 10. Don't be afraid to intervene for the sake of their health.

Mental or physical, when you see a friend or loved one slipping, intervene. Friendships can have a major impact on your health & well-being.

Adults with strong social support are at lower risk of many medical conditions. These include depression, high blood pressure, & even obesity. If you see a friend making decisions which may negatively impact their life, step up, say something, & if needed, get professional help.

Interventions can be very challenging to carry out, as it requires sharing daunting feelings openly, & will require healthy boundaries. However, the outcome can be life-changing, & show the importance of strong friendships & the commitment to supporting their friend's health & well-being.

Thank you to everyone who took part in the Forging Friendships campaign. We hope that you all keep on investing in the treasure that is friendship!

Have you heard of the Pool Lizards Association?

This lighthearted & unofficial association was formed in 2010 to foster camaraderie between Joe Tabler & the Round Table International Board.

To become a member of the Pool Lizards, one must be a current Round Table Member, have an RTI Board Member present in a pool, jacuzzi, or ocean meeting at an official Round Table function, & have a cold refreshment ready for all "Lizards" present. Becoming a lizard is celebrated with a special pin, loud cheers & the donning of lizard swimming trunks.

Some of the Aims & Objectives include "To develop fellowship amongst young men through their love of chlorine & salt through the medium of their vast social skills, & the members intend to take over the world one cold refreshment at a time."

Founded by the 2010 - 2011 RTI Board Members;

Week 8. Communicate with them honestly & openly.

Communication is crucial when it comes to building strong & lasting friendships. It should be open, honest, & respectful. When your friends feel safe expressing themselves openly, trust is built, which forms a solid friendship bond & contributes to positive mental health for both the giver & the receiver. Some conversations might be difficult, but, always prioritise honesty.

The next focus of our anti-bullying campaign is cyberbullying, a serious issue that takes place when digital devices such as cell phones, computers, & tablets are used for bullying purposes.

This can happen through SMS, apps, social media, & online forums where harmful content is shared about someone. With the widespread use of social media, such content can impact individuals' online reputations & be viewed by strangers.

Cyberbullying not only affects the victim, but also those participating in it. It's crucial to be mindful of our online behaviour, as it can have lasting consequences on our personal & professional lives.

To tackle cyberbullying, it's crucial to stop all communication & not engage with the bully. Blocking the cyberbully on social media & reporting them is essential. Safeguard yourself online by refraining from sharing your passwords, utilizing privacy settings, & being cautious with your personal information. When feeling threatened, don't hesitate to seek help or report cyberbullying to the authorities.

Together, we can create a kinder, more compassionate world where everyone is treated with respect. 🌐

The next aspect of our anti-bullying campaign, as part of the RTI Community Service initiatives, is social bullying. 🌐

Social bullying, also known as covert and relational bullying, is the second most common form of bullying after name-calling. It is meant to humiliate & damage someone socially.

Common tactics include spreading rumours, encouraging others to turn against the victim, exclusion, & using humiliating nicknames. It can be harder to recognize than other forms of bullying & is often done behind the victim's back. When faced with social bullying, victims may feel the urge to isolate themselves & withdraw from social situations to protect themselves.

Seeking help is not a sign of weakness, & having someone to talk to can make a significant difference. It is important to trust your instincts, seek support from loved ones, & get involved in activities that make you feel confident & valued.

Remember that bullies may have their own issues, but that is not an excuse for their behaviour. Being kind, confident, & true to yourself can help diminish the impact of social bullying & discourage bullies from targeting you. Setting up peer support groups or joining activities you enjoy can also help with social bullying.

Together, we can create a kinder, more compassionate world where everyone is treated with respect.

Our thoughts are with our Brothers, Sisters, their loved ones, & the people of Bangladesh as their cities are under military patrol to control civil unrest from protests.

At least 110 people have died in the violence this week & the military has been deployed nationwide to maintain law & order, with a curfew in effect until at least Sunday morning.

We wish for a speedy return to normalcy, a better future, & for everyone to stay safe. 🌐

Let's face it, we all make mistakes. Some big, some small, & we all wish we had done something different. Apologise sincerely when you have wronged someone & never hold your friend's mistakes over them.

The best way to apologise is to learn from your mistakes & never repeat your actions. Coming back to past discretions never does any good. So, we all make mistakes, but there should always be redemption with our mates.

Today, we pay tribute & grieve for a fellow Brother & faithful advocate for humanity, Bogdan Stefan Cristoiu.

While trying to save a young man from Sri Lanka, who was drowning in a turbulent river, Stefan, a Member of Round Table Italy, tragically lost his life.

His final act of selflessness encompasses the qualities of a true hero & serves as an lasting inspiration for us all to uphold our movement's values, the values he so strongly believed in.

We would like to express our deepest condolences to our Round Table Italy Family & the families & loved ones of both young men.

Rest in peace Stefan, we will forever honour your heroic attempts & unwavering friendship.

In July, we will be tackling the crucial topic of anti-bullying as part of the RTI Community Service initiatives.

Today, we would like to highlight verbal bullying.

Verbal bullying involves using insults & teasing to gain power over others, leading to long-lasting psychological effects such as intimidation & low self-esteem. Victims may hide their true emotions, resulting in depression, anxiety, isolation, & suicidal thoughts.

They may blame themselves for the bullying & have difficulty expressing their feelings, leading to changes in behaviour. Recognizing signs of bottled-up emotions is crucial in supporting victims. Warning signs of self-harm & mental health issues include depression, social withdrawal, anxiety, aggression, & substance abuse.

- If you see verbal harassment, make sure to speak up & address the behaviour.
- Express your boundaries clearly & confidently.
- Reject engaging in or accepting behaviour that is harassing.
- Encourage social involvement & support groups to prevent isolation & further mental health issues.

Together, we can create a kinder, more compassionate world where everyone is treated with respect. It's time to make a difference & end bullying. 🌐

Week 5: Be purposely present!

Yes, we all lead busy lives, & we've all been there: "Maybe next time". Well, one day, the next time will never come. Be present, especially in hard times, even if you have a hundred things to do. If you have errands to run or tasks to complete, consider calling a friend & inviting them along. You can go to the gym, grocery shop, or work on a project together at home.

And, if the roles are reversed, ask your friend if they have any tasks they need to complete that you can help with. This way, you can make the most of your time together while still being productive.

A cherished tradition of the Round Table International Board is when the Executive Board, along with other Board Members, meet in the President's hometown or city to discuss upcoming topics ahead of the World Meeting.

This year, the Board convened in the charming southern Austrian city of Villach. In between the crucial business facets of the meeting, the Board strengthened the base of our movement, which is friendship. 🇦🇹

This July, as part of the RTI Community Service initiatives, we'd like to address the vital topic of anti-bullying. 🌐

Physical, verbal, social or cyber - you’ve probably faced some form of bullying at one point or another in your school life, or know someone who has been a victim.

Today, we would like to highlight physical bullying. Physical bullying includes hitting, shoving, tripping, kicking, pinching, spitting, damaging belongings etc. Just like all forms of bullying, it's never okay - it's a heartbreaking & traumatic experience that no one should ever have to go through. Everyone, child or adult, deserves to feel safe & protected. It's up to all of us to watch out for the signs, speak up, & take action to stop physical bullying in its tracks.

The first step in preventing physical bullying is to increase awareness & to communicate openly. Other steps that can be taken to prevent bullying include:

- Educating oneself by researching & sharing your information with others
- Building a positive self-concept by teaching assertiveness, respect, empathy, & problem-solving.
- Creating a community of trust by encouraging open discussion about experiences & concerns.
- Identifying indicators & addressing them such as social isolation, poor grades, & low self-esteem.
- Fostering empathy & respect by teach kindness & consideration, & leading by example.
- Responding to physical bullying by investigating, documenting, & reporting to authorities if needed.

Remember, fostering an atmosphere of trusted communication & relaying to others that they can talk to you about anything is vital in dealing with bullies.

Together, we can create a kinder, more compassionate world where everyone is treated with respect. Let's make a difference & put an end to physical bullying.

"As you settle in for the night to watch your favourite series, thousands face the burning cold."

Although Africa's climate is known for its hot conditions due to its geographical location, Southern Africa can experience midwinter temperatures dropping to -15°C (5°F) & annual snowfall in certain regions.

Winter Knights, an Alignment Project initiated in 2010 by Round Table Southern Africa, originated in Scottburgh, KwaZulu-Natal, where Members braved the cold to raise awareness. The winter alleviation project has since evolved with various innovative approaches to collecting funds, blankets & warm clothing.

Through trolley fills, door-to-door collections, & corporate partnerships, Winter Knights has garnered support from entire towns. In 2023, over R2.8 million (€142,598.00) of goods & donations were raised.

This project, a passion of Tablers, is a trademark owned by the Association & symbolises their commitment to giving back to the community.

The Norwegian Childhood Cancer Society, a voluntary organisation run by families affected by paediatric cancer, is dedicated to providing unwavering support for children & adolescents with cancer & establishing an indispensable support network for their families.

The Scandinavian Association's credo "Do before you demand" rings true with their selfless actions in aiding this incredible cause.

This year, Round Table Great Britain and Ireland (RTBI) is supporting a charity that Round Table helped establish in 1974, The Anthony Nolan Trust.

Proud milestones include; Broadstairs Round Table making a £20,000 donation in 1974 as a start-up, RTBI raising £1m as a National Campaign in their 50th year, to Tables running an 6-week campaign in 1986 that resulted in an additional 100,000 new donors on the Anthony Nolan register.

The trust is not only a stem cell register based in the UK but also operates internationally. Their goal is to conquer cancer & save four lives daily. This year, RTBI is celebrating 50 years of collaborative work & is inspiring their local Clubs & the international community to step up & join in the fight by raising funds, registering as donors & creating awareness.

It's important to recognize when it's time to help someone who's struggling. The first step is to ask open questions & then listen to their story. Don't push for change until you are certain that they have been heard & understood. After that, pay attention to both "problem talk" & "change talk," as highlighted last week.

When they start talking about making a change, be prepared to discuss solutions. For example: "It would probably be better if..."

It's important to pay close attention & listen carefully when a loved one is talking about their problems or seeking change.

"Problem-talk" occurs when a person focuses on the issues they are facing & the reasons why things can't or won't change, indicating a mindset that is stuck & destructive.

Associations in the Region include Canada, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Russia, Suriname, Sweden, Trinidad & Tobago, & The United States of America.

The Region's logo (or more affectionately, "rondel") features Polaris (or North Star) with the initials of the Region, while the outer circle represents the diverse colours present in the flags of the regions' Associations. Stars, & especially the North Star, are often used as symbols of light, guidance, aspirations, & excellence. And, as is very fitting in for the Region, the star represents qualities such as leadership, success, achievement, & brilliance.

Its Members are recognised for their elating spirit & a service approach that inspires & moves like no other. Associations in the Region include Bulgaria, Cyprus, France, Gibraltar, Israel, Italy, Malta, Morocco, Portugal, San Marino, Senegal, Switzerland & Tunisia.

The Region's logo (or more affectionately, "rondel") features a raised trident with the Mediterianean's azure blue in the background. The trident is a symbol of strength, power, & compassion. It gives protection, nurtures goodness, & represents our quest for higher learning & understanding. In lore, the trident is an emblem of the Greek god, Poseidon, & its unmistakable & majestic form represents the divine mastery over oceans, seas, & rivers, embodying the concept of the triad. And arguably, the trident's tips can be referred to as our motto's three points adopt, adapt & improve.

RTI Spotlight:

Over the past three years, Round Table Italy has been committed to providing medical supplies to Guinea Bissau, a West African nation, considered one of the world's most poverty-stricken countries.

This year, the compassionate Association elevated their international outreach & began the construction of a new hospital called "Santa Franca" in the city of Jugudul. In laying the ceremonious foundation stone of this vital facility, the Italian Tablers had the honour of sharing this special moment with the previous Health Minister & President of the Abeni Foundation, Dionisio Cumbà, the head Iman, & the Regional President.

In the capital city of Bissau, these delegates met with His Excellency Umaro Sissoco Embalo, Prime Minister Rui Duarte De Barros, & the new health minister to discuss further projects.

In addition to the monumental efforts in the region, Italy launched a second project to help get children off the streets through the medium of football. These life-changing initiatives demonstrate Italy's commitment to making a positive impact in the world, & fortify their ongoing efforts to help those in need. 🇮🇹

Over the past weekend, delegates of the Asia Pacific Region (ASPA), gathered to celebrate the Region's triumphs at the idyllic gateway of the Philippines, the cosmopolitan hub of Clark. 🇵🇭

The cheering assembly opened with a golf competition that raised $2500 for the SOS Children's Village, an institution that cares for abandoned & neglected children. Other events on the itinerary included an RTI University workshop, a vibey pool party & of course, a gala evening to elegantly conclude the Region's celebrations.

During the official meeting, ASPA Regional Chairman Shamaal Panagoda gracefully guided the meeting and praised the floor for actively pursuing growth & reaching objectives by fostering friendships. Also in attendance, Board Members Nadeen Kumarasinghe & Jayant Agrawal reaffirmed RTI's dedication to be of service to the vibrant Region.

Our sincere appreciation goes out to Round Table Philippines for hosting this amazing event, a notable feat considering its size. This determined Association is no doubt, facing a very bright future.

#TableThrowback - The first Round Table Club was founded in 1927, in Suckling House, a historically significant merchant's house built in the 1300's in Norwich, United Kingdom.

Our founder, Louis Marchesi, a then member of the Norwich Rotary Club, envisioned a gathering place for young businessmen where they could exchange ideas, learn from each other's experiences & contribute collectively to the civic life of Norwich.

The life-divining vision soon became a reality both locally & internationally, as the Round Table movement spread across the globe.

Over the past weekend, the Round Table International - Africa, Middle East & Indian Ocean - AMI conducted their annual assembly in Livingstone, a popular tourist destination, nestled at the base of the stunning Victoria Falls in Zambia.

President Marc Germeshausen praised the Region's impactful efforts & engaged with the inspiring floor at the productive meeting led by Regional Chairman Leejay Tavares.

The RTI visit included a humbling site meet & greet at Rainbow Children's Village, a facility for children undergoing cancer treatment funded by Harare Round Table 23 (Zimbabwe).

Superb work AMI! It's evident that the spirit of Tabling flourishes under the magnificent African skies, the ageless Middle East & the majestic Indian Ocean.

Meet a man who arguably needs no introduction, Marc Germeshausen - philanthropist, emphatic Tabler & your Round Table International President from the picturesque city of Villach, Austria. 🇦🇹

Professionally, Marc, the youngest ever RTI President at 33, serves as a Director for a renowned European educational institution & manages other business interests.

His persistent dedication to our movement from a young age has served our global fraternity well & has led him to the pinnacle of his Table career. In realising the power of unity harnessed through diversity, & the determination of Tablers to affect change, his term's motto #UnitedinDiversity, was born.

RTI is thrilled to share with you an initiative created by the next generation of Tablers as well as children of active & former Tablers, "The Marchesis".

The founding Club, "Marchesis Strassen 1", located in Strassen, Luxembourg, is set to be officially chartered on the 1st of June 2024. The Marchesis is a dynamic Club for teens between the ages of 12 to 17, dedicated to fostering friendships, personal growth, & introduction of service projects.

We are proud of our youth for uniting to launch this impactful initiative. We look forward to lending our support & to working closely with them in the name of our founder.

Recognizing the vital importance of taking the right steps in the journey that is environmental sustainability, Round Table International together with Associations; Germany, The Netherlands & Italy submitted a motion, "Introduction of the RTI Environmental Charter", aimed at environmentally friendly practices within operations of the Round Table Family. ♻️

We are excited to announce that this proposal was passed & will now encourage Associations to prioritize eco-friendly practices that include packaging for pins, coins, & merchandise, as well as to avoid using single-use plastic at events. Well done gentlemen!

Globally, it is estimated that 1 in every 8 people is living with a mental health condition.

#MentalHealthMatters - as a movement driven by goodwill, Round Table is proud to have Members who recognise the vital importance of fielding mental health-related projects.

After learning about the "Don't Camo Yourself" initiative, which utilizes a "lumo camo" jacket to spark conversations, Karlos O'Neill of Round Table Great Britain & Ireland (Mold & Buckley 399) travelled to South Africa on an invitation by host Tom Sutherland, to meet with founder Jacques van Wyk, & to enjoy world-renowned ARTSA hospitality in the project's origin location.

Karlos, an avid mental health advocate, believes his personal battles were the main factor behind his decision to join Round Table. He is now leading a 5-year project as project manager for "The Venture" a charity organisation in Wrexham, focusing on enhancing the mental well-being of youth in North Wales. aims to elevate the recently launched Don't Camo Yourself campaign in the UK. Well done gentlemen! 🌐

Earlier today, the RTI Board & international Delegates had the honour of being present at the opening ceremony of Round Table Nepal's inaugural Model School, the Orchid Garden, situated in Kathmandu.🎓

The Orchid Garden is a non-profit organisation that provides education, & protects the rights, welfare & health of children.

Following Round Table Nepal, in collaboration with Round Table Austria & Round Table Paris 1's involvement, the school was renovated & now boasts facilities such as sturdy classrooms, clean water, sanitary toilets, a library, a computer lab, & a playground. In addition, RT Nepal maintains the school & has introduced initiatives like Train the Teacher, where the significance of empathy is highlighted.

Thank you RT Nepal & Orchid Garden for hosting us & for your amazing work! We will treasure every interaction with the children for years to come.

RTI Spotlight:

Table Ronde Française's The Oval Hope Project, launched in 2013, brings together destitute & abandoned children living in Social Care Homes.

In partnership with various professional rugby teams, the project creates lasting memories, provides a welcome relief & ultimately inspires a brighter future through the medium of rugby.

As an ongoing national project, French Tablers have hosted thousands of children at matches, training sessions & meet & greets. Often these events will include goodie bags to add to the experience.

#TableThrowback - The birth of Round Table

Visionary Erminio William Louis Marchesi (Louis), a former Rotarian, who was affectionately known as "Mark," founded the Round Table Movement.

Marchesi was inspired to act after hearing a speech by the then Prince of Wales calling young business & professional men to step up & effect change. He established the first Table (Club) in Norwich, Norfolk, United Kingdom & convened a meeting at Suckling House in Norwich on March 14th, 1927, which led to the formation of our movement.

Soon after, the first Annual General Meeting of Norwich Round Table was held in February 1928, & new Tables were founded in Portsmouth (2), Guildford (3), Southampton (4), & Bournemouth (5). On May 25th, 1928, a new Central Council of Round Tables of Great Britain & Ireland was formed, with Marchesi serving as National President in 1934 - 1935.

We are #UnitedinDiversity - to this day, we live the values of friendship & his vision of positive change as young professionals.

Ever wondered where our emblem comes from?

The Great Hall in the Winchester Castle in Hampshire, England, houses arguably the greatest symbol of medieval mythology & inspiration to our emblem, King Arthur’s Round Table.

With no head at the table, the iconic top personifies chivalry, service, equality & shared importance - the perfect fit for the world's greatest young men's organisation.

The table in The Great Hall is not from the time of King Arthur but rather built six centuries later by Edward I, according to radiocarbon dating & carpentry studies. It was likely used as the centrepiece at a tournament in 1290 to celebrate the engagement of one of Edward's daughters.

It was later restored & painted by Henry VIII, & features 24 Arthurian knights' names around the perimeter. Constructed of English oak, this magnificent centre piece measures 5.5 meters in diameter, weighs 1.32 tons, & once had 12 outer legs & a central support.

Round Table Zimbabwe's international award-winning "Jail n Bail" charity fundraiser combines the element of fun & corporate collaboration, to ultimately benefit destitute elderly. 🇿🇼

With renowned Tabler banter never far behind, "inmates" partners & supporters are locked up for the use of "excessive goodwill" in makeshift jail cells & released - or in some cases, jailed longer if the price is right. If the satisfactory "bail" amount is raised, the inmates re-claim their freedom.

Well done Harare Round Table 23, Round Table Zimbabwe & thank you to the visitors from Round Table India for their support.

To support the cause, Round Table Nepal organised their inaugural "Ride for Men's Health" rally with 125+ bikers in attendance. They covered important landmarks in & around Kathmandu, showing solidarity for the cause.
